Youth: The Barton Challenge Program

The Barton Challenge Program consists of a collection of regional races for young paddlers from 5 to 18 years old culminating in the Barton Cup Challenge at the annual USCA National Championships in early August every year.   How do you Qualify to Compete in the Finals at Nationals By participating in and completing the course in a regional Barton Challenge Qualifying Race, paddlers are eligible to compete at the following USCA Nationals for the Barton Cup final within the C1 Junior and K1 Junior Marathon Championship races.   Where and When are the Nationals in 2010? In 2010 National Canoe & Kayak Championships will take place on the Peshtigo River in Peshtigo, WI - about 40 mins north of Green Bay, from Tuesday, August 10 through Sunday, August 15.   The C1 Junior Marathon Championships & C1 Barton Cup final takes place during the marathon race days (Fri-Sun).   The same with the K1 Junior Marathon Championships & K1 Barton Cup - which exact dates will be shown here as soon as available.   Note #1: Ages: For Barton Challenge Qualifying Races taking place in the 12 months leading to a USCA Nationals, ages are measured as of midnight of the December 31 preceding that Nationals.   Example 1: For a Qualifying Race taking place on or before July 31, 2010, prior to the 2010 USCA Nationals, ages are measured as of December 31st 2009.   For races taking place from August 1, 2010 through July 31, 2011, leading to the 2011 USCA Nationals, ages are measured as of December 31st, 2010. Note #2: The cutoff date for Barton Challenge Qualifying Races for the 2009 Nationals is July 31, 2010.   Races held after this date will qualify participants for the 2011 Nationals. Note #3: The actual finals of the Barton Cup at USCA Nationals do not qualify as a Barton Challenge Qualifying Race for the following year. The registration form will be available here some time in February 2010.   Note that most events (including all marathon events) require pre-registration.   Day-of-race registration ONLY available for the (unofficial) Biathlon, and the Youth Sprints on Thursday. 2010 Barton Challenge Qualifying Races The first of these "for 2010" actually took place August 1, 2009 - the start of the qualifying period. This race, the Wolf Lake Regatta qualified the participants for the 2010 Nationals. As other Barton Cup Qualifying Races become scheduled they will appear both here and on the Worldwide Paddling Event Calendar. What is it?
The Barton Challenge Program consists of a collection of regional races for young paddlers from 5 to 18 years old culminating in the Barton Cup Challenge at the annual USCA National Championships in early August every year.  

How do you Qualify to Compete in the Finals at Nationals
By participating in and completing the course in a regional Barton Challenge Qualifying Race, paddlers are eligible to compete at the following USCA Nationals for the Barton Cup final within the C1 Junior and K1 Junior Marathon Championship races.  

Where and When are the Nationals in 2010?

2010 Barton Challenge Qualifying Races

The first of these "for 2010" actually took place August 1, 2009 - the start of the qualifying period. This race, the Wolf Lake Regatta qualified the participants for the 2010 Nationals. As other Barton Cup Qualifying Races become scheduled they will appear both here and on the Worldwide Paddling Event Calendar.
